Salmonella bacteria cause Typhoid fever which is a serious concern in many underdeveloped countries. Finding a medication that could be effective in reducing deaths due to the disease would be very beneficial. Typhimirium strain in particular causes Typhoid fever like symptoms in mice but only food poisoning in humans. Its much safer to work with.
Using lower doses of this drug would reduce the side effects experienced by the patient. Using very small doses of Cisplatin alone might not be effective at killing bacteria, but pairing this drug with another drug could allow for a very small dosage of Cisplatin to be show bactericidal effects without as many negative side effects associated with higher doses.
Was there a particular reason for studying salmonella as the bacteria to be killed?

What types of bacterial side effects were you trying to visualize?
bacericidal effects! like the bacteria died
Is there any other bacteria that Cisplatin would have a similar reaction to?
We would need to run this experiment on other bacteria in order to answer that question
You mentioned there are side effects to this drug – would those be alleviated by it being used in conjunction with another drug?
