Thank you for your question! My partner and I were really in need of a phage name fast, but we both are very indecisive and had no idea what to name it. So we just thought of something random and checked to make sure it wasn’t taken and that’s how we named it!
This is a great question! The bacteria have receptors on the surface of the cell, and the tail fibers on the phage recognize those specific viral receptors. Which allow them to know which bacteria to attack and inject their DNA into.
how/ why did you come up with the name BubbleGup?

Did you expect the BubbleCup phage to be a temperate phage before conducting the experiment?
Great question! I actually did expect it to be a temperate phage, since the plaque assay showed a majority of temperate plaques.
How do phages target specific bacteria in phage therapy?
