We used spot tests to determine the presence of phages that can infect the M. smeg bacteria we used, web pattern flooding to determine our HTL, restriction digest to determine the possible clusters based on which enzymes cut, and then a PCR test to determine the possible phage cluster of A1.

  1. What are some of the practical applications for knowing which cluster your phage belongs to?

    1. Phages of similar genomic makeups, and therefore infect-ability, are placed in the same clusters, so if we know the cluster of our phage, we can look at phages of the same cluster and which bacteria they infect, which can help us understand which bacteria our phage can infect.
