HI! We chose to study Tetrahymena thermophila because we wanted to understand more about DNA damage repair. Tetrahymena thermophila is an ideal organism because it cuts up its own genome every time it mates making it necessary to conduct DNA repair regularly. For HypeC specifically, this research is important because our gene is a candidate gene for DNA repair and we know that HypeC is upregulated during the C2 and C18 stages of conjugation. All of this research is critical because it will provide more information about recognition and control of human diseases relating to cancer treatment development.
Hi! Hydroxyurea is necessary in inhibiting DNA synthesis as Hydroxyurea induces stress responses. Hydroxyurea is important in cancer treatment development as well.
When you are speaking about the methods, how exactly does PCR play a role in the experiment with HypeC?

Hi! Thank you for your question! PCR is important because it amplifies DNA using primers for our specific DNA sequence which was found using BLAST.
