  1. Great presentation! For ‘Determining which genes are not involved this will help other research eliminate which genes can and can not be used for further study, especially in the medical world’ would specific medical studies are you referring too?

    1. Mutations in proteins involved in the DNA damage repair response, such as RAD51, have major side effects including cancer. When we stated this Hypedc3 could not be used for further study, we meant in the context of studying possible health effects misfunction or mutation of hypedc3 could have on the cell, and if it could perhaps lead to something as serious as cancer.

  2. Your research is very interesting, thank you for sharing! Why was the C3 protein suspected to be a part of the DNA damage response? Why was it chosen to be studied?

Hypedc3 was suspected to be involved in the DNA damage response because during replication (conjugation) in T. therm cells, the genome is cut and then repaired by the cell’s DNA damage response. Thus, since Hypedc3 expression is shown to majorly increase during conjugation, it was chosen as a candidate for study.
