  1. Hi there! Great presentation.
I was a little confused on what the function of hydroxyurea is in this project, and what it generally does. You discussed that it damaged your DNA, but how or why is this important?

    1. Hydroxyurea was used to damage DNA because once the DNA was damaged, the DNA repair response pathway would be triggered, which our gene, TWI7, was hypothesized to be apart of. So, hydroxyurea was used to basically verify (or not) if our gene was activated after damage.

  2. What does the TWI7 gene do? What are its other function(s), if known? Is there any other research about what it does?

    1. Although other TWI genes have known functions, TWI7 is virtually unknown. In all research papers I found, they either didn’t mention TWI7 or concluded that TWI7 did nothing that they tested for. 😦

    1. Yes. We expected that if our gene was involved in healing DNA damage, TWI7 would be more highly expressed after damage.

    1. I think the most challenging aspect was not knowing anything about our gene, as it was a bit frustrating starting out with an unknown function and then ending with a null hypothesis so we are still unsure of the role of the gene.
