    1. We aren’t sure how or which compound actually causes it to have probiotic properties. We know that it would make a bacterial infection worse because in both the dilution series and Mueller-Hinton Plate it caused Salmonella to grow.

    2. Further research would need to be done to identify the specific compound and mechanism for how it acts as a probiotic. We know it is a probiotics because, in both the dilutions series and Mueller-Hinton plate, it caused the Salmonella to grow substantially.

  1. Why do you think that Lions Mane was determined a probiotic by your research, when it has antibiotic properties as stated in your introduction?

    1. Both our tests show that it acts as a growth factor, and thus would be considered a probiotic. We initially believed it could be an antibiotic from research on similar bacteria. As stated in the Future Research section, it is possible that there are certain compounds within the mushroom that could act as antibiotics if isolated.

    1. Because it’s a probiotic there isn;t a path for it to be an antibiotic. Looking at individual compounds in the mushroom powder could lead to finding one, potentially beta-glucan, that is an antibiotic when it’s isolated.
