  1. Why do you think Mastoparan is potentially a good antibiotic? Is that what its purpose seems to be in the wasp’s venom?

    1. Mastoparan was identified as a hit in previous semesters, which is why we decided to continue its research! Based on published research, it seems to target and destabilize bacterial membranes.

    1. Any absorbance value above or below two standard deviations of the negative control mean is the tested and defined “hit” range we use in the drug discovery labs!

    1. The benefit of an antibiotic being bacteriostatic is that it inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the body’s immune system time to kill the bacteria. Unfortunately, as far as I know, bacteriostatic antibiotics haven’t been able to be modified to permanently kill bacteria.
