We chose snail mucin to investigate weather the claims made by cosmetic companies were grounded in science. Also, we chose it because it had been shown to be successful in previous semesters, and we wanted to expand on that research.
We cannot say with confidence that it will be more or less effective. It will, however, be a certified pure product. Our cosmetic is in Korean so we are not entirely sure what is in it, the concentration of snail mucin, or what solvent is used.
I think this could largely be because the solvent of our snail mucin and our negative control were different. This means our data is difficult to find ant sort of results in.
Reply to Rubi: our results were not fully conclusive because our compound’s solvent and our negative control were different. This makes it impossible to make a good statistical comparison.
Reply to Nate and Morgan: live snails would provide a direct and trustworthy source to get snail mucin, and it would be more pure. The cosmetic holds possibly unknown compounds that could be conflicting with our study.
Reply to Hrach: I could not say for sure. I do not know of any antibiotics that combine phage treatment with ones that target the bacterium directly with a compound, however I would be interested into looking into it.
What made you choose snail mucin? Were you trying to prove or disprove claims of cosmetic companies claiming benefits from snail mucin?

Do you predict that raw/ wild snail mucin would have been more or even less effective at inhibiting growth?

Di you think snail mucin can become more effective if we combine it with bacteriophages?

why do you think future studies should use live snails and natural snail mucin?

Live snails would provide a direct and trustworthy source of our proposed compound. It also allows us to use our own solvent
