Lytic phage are extremely important in phage therapy. This is because they have the ability to attach to a bacteriums binding site and insert genetic material. When they do this, they can destory the bacterial cell and make copies of themselves which are released when that cell is lysed. These phage copies can then be sent out to attack more cells. The cells the phage copies will be attacking are harmful antibiotic resistant cells!
Why is it important to know that the phage is lytic based?
