Hi! Lytic phages are actually necessary for phage therapy versus temperate because if the phage undergoes the lysogenic life cycle, as a temperate would, the genetic material would combine with that of the host cell and this would not result in successful phage therapy.

Honestly, I’m not too sure how this really affects the function of the phage, but if I had to guess, I would say it has something to do with the effectiveness of the injection of the genetic material into the host cell. Sorry if that isn’t accurate though, haha.
