    1. I chose the name Blorbo at the request of a friend. It is a term that refers to a favorite character in a piece of media.

  1. What was the process of getting the sample of dirt from Boulder? Did you have to immediately bring it in for testing or did you incubate the soil at all?

    1. I just collected the dirt and kept it in a plastic bag. There was a step of enrichment where the soil was flooded with M. smeg and left to incubate for two days.

  2. How would you properly assess for mutations after causing damage? Is there a way to separate and classify these different mutations through PCR?

    1. Honestly idk but the mutations are apparently classified by how long it takes for the UV to kill 50% of the phages present. It is then possible to isolate the mutations but I’m not sure about the process.

    1. I don’t think the phage shape impacts the function at all, but the shape is similar to other phages within its cluster which can be helpful when determining the cluster and subcluster. All the phages within a cluster also function similarly so the shape can indicate what the phages function can be in that sense.
