I haven’t taken phage before, what is golden gate cloning? Also, the RNAi construct inhibits translation of the phytochrome A gene by creating the hairpin?
Hey Taylor, golden gate cloning is a technique that allows us to insert a gene of interest into a plasmid. And yes, this hairpin loop induces the RISC complex to target the mRNA of the phytochrome A gene, which then prevents its translation. Thank you for your comment!
The Ruby Indicator allows us to see where the gene is being expressed in the soybean – which gives us a good indication if our gene is actually being transcribed in the plant!
Inserting these genes make the soybean have a cleistogamous quality – in other words, it makes their flowers close so other soybeans can’t pollinate them.
