  1. Are there any other experiments you would conduct in the future besides the knockout experiment to test the function of HypedC3?

    1. Absolutely, what comes to mind immediately is tagging the protein to investigate where in the cell it functions. Great question!

  2. Could you elaborate on how the gene responsible for perfect double stranded DNA breaks could be groundbreaking in the medical field?

    1. Current double-stranded break repair in our bodies is imperfect to the point of being a huge cause of mutations. Having a potentially programmable (think Cas9) DNA repair system could be applied in a way to reduce or replace nonhomologous end joining.

    1. Initially there was, these results were after a second round of PCR and measuring. Other human error could be that I added a different amount of my gene of interest in the two rt+ wells of the gel. As always, though, there’s DEFINITELY the possibility of human error. These tests would have to be run myriad times with replicable results to be confirmed as definitive.

  3. What protein was used to reverse transcribe the DNA? That sounds super cool! And do you know where it was isolated from/ how it was made?

    1. Reverse transcriptase! It is an enzyme that was encoded from the genetic material of retroviruses. It’s also called RNA-dependent DNA polymerase. I could wax poetic on how it works, but I believe I’ve answered your questions.
