I couldn’t give you a complete answer but I know that new antibiotic classes require discovery of a new mechanism of action to inhibit bacteria and we’ve already found the most straight forward ways to attack bacteria which makes antibiotic development increasingly difficult.

How do you determine the max dose for the first experiment?
We used the maximum concentration of our compound that could still be pipetted without clogging our equipment.

I’m not sure what would be most effective but it is likely that some kind of assay could be useful.
