I loved your presentation and poster! I especially liked the section that mentioned antidepressants because you related your knowledge from lab to a completely different but still overlapping field/issue. What are some of the characteristics that make anti-depressants similar to antibiotic resistance infections? Does this idea apply to other psychiatric drugs or is it strictly just antidepressants?
Hi Prasamsha, I liked your presentation a lot! It was very informative and well-practiced. Do you expect a different effect than shown on your in-lab testing when you utilize your mouse model? If so, what results would you be looking for to see if your solution is something that would be useful to further research and market eventually.
Hi, great job! You sounded very confident in your presentation! Do you have any hypotheses as to why Maprotiline HCl seems to promote S. typhimurium growth?
I do not but my best educated guess would have to be because it is tetracyclic that structure as an antidepressant isn’t suitable to inhibit growth in salmonella.
What are the potential implications of the discovery that maprotiline hydrochloride has a growth-promoting effect on Salmonella Typhimurium instead of being an effective antibiotic? How can this information be used in treating patients who are taking this antidepressant and develop a bacterial infection?

We tested antibiotics specifically because they have anti microbial properties. Anti psychotics also are said to have antimicrobial properties.
What other types of anti-depressants would you compared with the Maprotiline Hydrochloride?
I’m not sure I understand your question but we would want to look into more tetracyclic antidepressants.
