  1. What is bacterial Cytol vs bacterial static, and what does that mean in relation to your Antibacterial effects in Alpha-Pinene?

    1. Bactericidal is when the compound is actively killing bacteria, and bacteriostatic is when the compound is just inhibiting bacterial growth. This in relation with our compound we were trying to discover what class of antibiotic this compound would be, and for any further testing this information would be important to know to be able to dose correctly. Thanks for the question!

  2. Since there were no antibacterial effects, do you think that the compound could be modified to become a better antibacterial?

    1. Yes, with the previous testing in Z. armatum the compound showed antibacterial effects, so possibly by adding other compounds that are directly related or in Z. amatum could reproduce and possibly increase its antibacterial effects.

    1. So at first my group and I wanted to use the Z. armatum compound which I bring up a bit, but we were unable to buy that compound so we had some options with compounds that are apart of Z. armatum and Alpha-pinene was one of them also. Also, mycrocin B was an option we had but we decided against it.

  3. What would the hopeful result of testing on mice be? Also, where would you take your research from that point if the mice testing went as planned?

    1. Testing in mice allows us to gauge any toxicity there would be at the concentration levels 10%(Max Dose) or other concentrations that were included in our serial dilutions test. If that were to go as planned we would then try to formulate the concentration that would be the least toxic and most effective to acquire our expected biological effect. Then we would test with another model organism like Salmonella Typhi which is much more harmful than Salmonella Typhimurium in humans. If we still get our desired result then we would go into Phase 1 of clinical trials.
