Melittin forms pores in cell membranes, so it throws off the ability for bacteria cells to function because of the damage done to the membrane, this kills the cell because it can’t properly function without its membrane intact so the ability of Melittin to form these pores was why we chose to test this compound.

  1. Great video! Is melittin more effective at killing bacterial cells than non-bacterial cells and does it have the potential to kill non-bacterial cells?

    1. Melittin has potential to kill both bacterial and nonbacterial cells equally, so it is likely going to kill nonbacterial cells, so the compound could be toxic to organisms.
