  1. Hi! Could you please explain what the Ea cluster is and why it’s important to know that the phage is part of that cluster? Thank you!

    1. The Ea cluster just classifies what family of phage it is apart of which can be used to test these similar phages for similar bacterias that have worked before for those families. The cluster is determined by figuring out how many cuts the different enzymes tested in the restriction digestion cause and which phages in each cluster are similar with the cuts.

    2. The Ea cluster is just the classification of the family of phage my phage falls into which can then help test similar phages on bacteria that has been tested with the phage in the same family before. I determined the cluster by counting the cuts and patterns from different enzymes being mixed with my phage DNA and run in restriction digestion where I can compare these cuts with phages in different clusters to determine which one it is most similar to.

  2. What is the significance of the morphology of the phage? What does your phage being a siphoviridae mean for how the phage behaves/functions?

    1. The different heads will hold RNA or DNA of different kinds (single stranded, double stranded, etc.) which can be effective to know when determining what phage is needed for each antibiotic resistant bacteria. For the tails, their structure changes how they infect the bacteria. The two kinds are a contractile tail or a lengthy tail that uses injection. The siphoviridae phage has a long non-contractile tail, that inserts the DNA through inserting its tail into the host cell. The icosahedral head that this phage contains will increase the structural units in each face which will expand the capsid size.

  3. Hi! Great presentation. I am unsure what an Ea cluster is, could you possibly explain your findings in a different way?
